Ask anything you need to know about Hevway, our App, industry news or general inquiries and we will get back to you ASAP and if we can’t answer you someone from our community will.
Hevway is simple to set up for any crane and easy to use. The development is the culmination of years of operator experience, testing, and refinement. The Hevway app routes you on appropriate Green and Orange roads for your current crane configuration.
Hevway will modernize mobile crane operating. Saving crane operators time, reducing human error, and saving businesses thousands.
Hevway was thought of one Christmas after a few beers between brothers on the deck when the Co-Founder, Bernie, voiced his frustration of the lack of a user-friendly crane navigation app. Bernie wished for one simple app that worked like GoogleMaps but had the VicRoads maps within the app. Bernie voiced those frustrations to Co-Founder, Tom.
Bernie’s extensive knowledge of the crane industry and the multiple facets, coupled with Tom’s expertise in cross-platform app development, allowed for Hevway to be born.
Since 2017, Bernie and Tom have worked tirelessly to provide the crane industry with an invaluable tool – Hevway. While there are state tools, maps, and journey planners available, we found them to be difficult at best and, at worst, required understanding complex legal classification documents.
During the creation of Hevway, we saw it wasn’t just an easy to use navigation tool the crane industry was missing, but rather all digital services were outdated or lacking altogether. That’s when we expanded our focus to the crane industry as a whole. We created our website to allow users to easily search for the existing tools, learn from other operators, and find businesses and training organizations in addition to our easy to use a navigation app.
Bernie started his career with a small general crane hire company based in Regional Victoria. With this company, he learned invaluable skills and more about the industry from experienced operators and riggers.
Over the years, Bernie has expanded his knowledge and experience to encompass a wide variety of crane types from a 40-tonne all-terrain crane all the way up to 750-tonne crane. Bernie has worked on a variety of projects throughout his career across the many facets of the crane industry ranging from bridge beams to high rises in the Melbourne CBD to wind farms throughout Regional Victoria.
Bernie realised the need for an app such as Hevway while transporting cranes around Victoria and Sydney. During these journeys, Bernie realised the difficulty of planning routes and the need for turn-by-turn navigation.
Bernie’s passion for Hevway comes from his years of experience as a rigger, a crane operator, and working as crane transport. No one understands the need for such an app more than Bernie.
Tom worked as a labourer for the family plastering business for two weeks before discovering his calling had an air-conditioned office.
Tom graduated from Swinburne University with a Bachelors of Computer Science and a Bachelors of Mechatronic Engineering.
After graduation, Tom worked for small local companies in the Telecoms and Heavy Vehicle industries for a few years before moving to corporate roles within Defence and Traffic Management.
Tom has always experimented with different tech projects outside of his day job throughout his career. When Bernie pitched Hevway, it was the perfect opportunity to work on a project that would have real-world applications.
Tom is passionate about providing excellent technology and easy to use software tools that ultimately make the user’s lives better. While Tom didn’t last long as a labourer, he has found his calling and works hard to bring the art state to our customers.
